Brendan Lawler
Head of Middle School

  • Bachelor of Science in Film and Electronic Media
  • Master of Education in Advanced Teaching (in progress)

I came to Colombia 10 years ago with the plan to connect with my maternal roots and ended up discovering not only a place that I’m now proud to call home but also my vocation as an IB educator. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching at multiple IB schools in the subjects of Media, Film and Theory of Knowledge, along with becoming an IB world examiner.

I’ve been at The English School for four years and in that time have served not only as a teacher but also as Secondary School Staff Representative on the Consejo Directivo, Year Coordinator, and Council of International Schools – (CIS) Accreditation Coordinator.

I believe that the IB philosophy is not something that’s taught but rather something that’s lived and reflected in every aspect of our daily lives here at school.

As Head of Middle School, I’m honored to lead a team of outstanding and dedicated educators that empower students to take agency over their learning in order to discover understanding of themselves and the world around them via inquiry, action and reflection. This work wouldn’t be possible without the support of parents and the rest of the community, that works with us hand in hand to form the generations of tomorrow.

Lizbeth Santana
MYP Coordinator

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with an emphasis on History.
• Postgraduate in Social Sciences Research.
• Master’s degree in Education
• Community Education doctoral candidate.

In my 15 years of experience in education, I have published two books for the teaching of Social Sciences in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and I have also collaborated with several publishers. I am an International Baccalaureate educator and I have been the Head of the IB Examiners’ Team for Theory of Knowledge for the last 6 years. I joined The English School 10 years ago, time during which I have held various positions. I am currently the Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator.

From my point of my view, there is a need for renewal in the field of education to make it dynamic, flexible, and, above all, more fun with classes that young people want to go to every day. Therefore, I wonder, what skills and knowledge should students learn in a changing and increasingly complex world? How can the curriculum help students become good citizens, thinkers, and innovators?
